Located at the People's Square, the very downtown of Shanghai, Grand Theatre occupies an area of 2.1 hectares, facing the People's Boulevard in the south, along Huangpi Beilu in the west, next to the Shanghai Municipal Building in the East. With unique style and beautiful outlook, it has become a representative building in Shanghai, who renders the People's Square virtually the city's center of politics and culture.

With a total height of 40 meters containing 10 storeys, the Shanghai Grand Theatre combines a style of eastern and western fixture flavor. It looks like a crystal palace in the light at night as the white arc-shaped roof joins coherently with the light-sensitive glass curtain wall.

Providing an ideal environment for opera, ballet and symphony, the Grand Theater contains three theaters, with the biggest one containing 1,800 seats. Additionally, 750 seats are set in the drama theatre and 300 seats in the studio theater.

With excellent acoustics construction and lighting equipment, Grand Theatre has successfully staged operas, musicals, ballets, concerts, spoken drama and Chinese operas since its opening in 1998. Now it has become an important window of cultural exchange between China and the world and a bridge of artistic communication.
