The symphony orchestra of Milan’s La Scala theatre was founded by the conductor Claudio Abbado in 1982. Since then it has collaborated with a number of the world’s leading conductors. The orchestra’s permanent conductors include the Korean-born Myung-Whun Chung, one of our time’s most successful masters of the baton, who achieved fame in the 1990s as the musical director of the Paris Opera. He is currently the chief conductor of the orchestra of Rome’s Academy of St. Cecilia and the French Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
