Marco Polo is a French contemporary dance drama,in which you will see classical dance, contemporary, hip-hop,acrobatics and martial arts.
The choreographers are Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault.
Marie-Claude Pietragalla who was a star dancer of the Paris Opera and the director of the Marseille Ballet built up her own dance company with Julien Derouault in 2004. She has a strong, demandingand passionate character that can be felt in her work.Through Marco Polo Pietragalla wanted to express the Chinese culture in her mind.
About the dance-drama
A love story will run through the drama and a girl in white will lead Marco Polo to the unknown and mysterious journey. This dance-drama will be divided into 5 sections: gold, wood, water, fire, earth, representing the five basic traditional elements.Every journey in each section is different. Marco Polo will find himself at the destination of the journey existing in his imagination.
“ In the original work The Travels of Marco Polo ,the boundary between the reality and fantasy was fuzzy.That’s why we choose that way to tell the story.” said Julien Derouault.
