The Royal Swedish Opera was founded in 1773 by His Majesty Gustaf III as a national stage for opera and ballet. During later years the Ballet has made guest performances in Japan, Brazil, Great Britain, USA, France, Germany and Italy as well as tours within Sweden. It is one of the oldest ballet companies in the world and the largest in Sweden. Artistic Director is Madeleine Onne.
As the third oldest ballet company in the world, the Royal Swedish Ballet history is as important as their future. It is exciting how a new generation of dancers meet historical dances, some of which have their roots as far back as the 17th century and have formed the foundation of the classical technique of today. |
